Israeli company Mobileye, together with Germany’s Volkswagen and Volkswagen’s Israel distributor, Champion Motors, announced plans to launch autonomous self- driving taxis in Israel. Israel has selected to serve as a global testing ground for this Mobility-as-a-Service model for autonomous electric vehicles. Volkswagen will provide electric vehicles for the riderless venture, Mobileye will supply hardware and software for the self- driving system, and Champion Motors will be responsible for fleet logistics and infrastructure. The companies are finalizing these prototypes and are scheduled to reach commercial scale by 2022. Mobileye is a global pioneer in vision technologies for collision warning systems and automotive computer systems, and is a leader in the race to develop the first marketable fleet of autonomous vehicles.
