Jerusalem International YMCA

The Jerusalem International YMCA was established in 1878 with a stated mission of fostering “interfaith, intercommunity and intercultural understanding.” Their landmark building in Jerusalem was constructed with symbols of the three Abrahamic faiths and they offer a multitude of creative programs for children and youth to promote dialogue between different ethnic groups, like the well-attended bilingual Peace Preschool. One of the YMCA’s most popular programs is the Jerusalem Youth Chorus, which invites Palestinian and Israeli young people to join its ranks in a united love of music. Youth from all across Jerusalem take lessons together and engage in complementary programming to create an atmosphere of respect and common ground. The choir has performed for many high-profile audiences, has been featured in many notable publications, and has partnered with famous artists, in addition to performing regularly in Jerusalem.
