Israeli Company Develops Handheld Device that Instantly Checks Water Safety

Jerusalem-based start-up Lishtot (Hebrew term meaning “to drink”) has developed a solution to help deal with one of the developing world’s greatest problems: assessing whether water is safe to drink. The company developed a small  handheld device that is able to instantly check for over 20 different contaminants in drinking water, without the user ever coming into direct contact with the water sample.
The key-chain sized device, named TestDrop Pro, has a sensor with a display which turns blue to show that the water is safe to drink, or red to indicate contamination. The device tests for heavy metals, bacteria, pesticides, and other toxins, and can be purchased on the company’s website. Lishtot was recently named as one of Time Magazine’s Genius Companies.
