Arava Institute for Environmental Studies
The Arava Institute is located in Kibbutz Ketura, about thirty minutes north of the Israeli port city of Eilat in the Arava Desert. The Institute brings together Israeli, Palestinian, Jordanian, and other international students to learn how to cooperate and solve the shared environmental challenges of their region. Through its academic programs and research, the Institute teaches students about waste and water management, renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, environmental diplomacy, and more. The peace-building Leadership Seminar, a key component
of the program, encourages students to confront the differences in their experiences and beliefs and engage in empathetic listening and understanding to solve cross-border environmental issues.
