A New Bio-Toilet That Saves Water and Converts Waste Into Cooking Gas
An Israeli company has devised one solution to two problems: a bio-toilet that not only provides a method for dealing with human waste, but also creates a source for cooking fuel. The innovation, presented by the Israeli company HomeBiogas, is compact, easy to set up, and does not require electricity. The toilet’s waste is treated and transformed into cooking fuel without the use of intricate sewage infrastructure, septic tanks, or water treatment facilities. This technology can significantly help an estimated 4.5 billion people from developing countries who do not have access to water and sewage infrastructure. The company spent two years developing their product by requesting input from communities that could benefit from the innovation. The concept has already proven to be transformative in trials in off-grid rural communities in Israel and Guatemala, and the company is now looking to expand into new markets.
